How To Get Your Articles Noticed

 One of the ways in which you can get free advertising for your business and publicity is by generating articles.

What do you write about?  The simplest advice is to write about what you know.  Articles should be at minimum between 450 - 600 words long.  You should not put a URL above the fold as most article submitters or ezine sites will reject your article. Also you need to ensure that you do not use another authors words.  Again, article ezine sites do not and will not tolerate this and your article will not be accepted.

Before writing an article, do your keyword search pretty much like you would if you were advertising on google or for pay per click. Why you ask, well, your articles just like ads are indexed by the spider bots that weave their way around the world wide web.  Have you noticed when you do a 'google' search on something you get a list of articles in the organic searches.  This is down to good keyword research.

You can break your articles down into 'chapters' or 'parts', not only will this give you lots to write about, but also gives out continuity to your readers.  Check your spelling and grammar, important feature of writing articles.  People tend to notice the mistakes and not the message you are conveying.

Good copy  writng skills will blow apart the competition, get readers attention from the start and get people to purchase whatever it is you are retailing.  Remember you have about 8 - 10 seconds to get peoples attention, having eye catching titles, and enthralling story lines to keep them hooked is essential to getting your article noticed.

Effective Time Management and Working From Home

Here is an excerpt from an article I wrote recently online.


If like me you are a busy mother, full time employee and business woman, chances are you have created a method to your madness. If however, you would like to improve upon your time management skills both in your personal and work life, then I hope the following gives you some ideas to help achieve this.

I can't seem to do anything with out my Personal Diary Assistant. My head is like a seive at times, I found that having an electronic diary works for me. If however, you like the good old fashioned paper based diary, then these tips will work also.

First of all on a day to day basis, begin to block out your time. From the time you wake up to the time you go to bed, mark out what activities you wish to achieve in that time. Include the school run, domestic tasks such as housework or shopping as well as your day job if you have one. Equally important is marking out Family Time. Even though you may have started an online business to generate more income, does not mean your family life has to suffer. Then most of all and importantly you need to include valuable ME time. Time where you can unwind and relax, or tiem for the Gym or other social activities. Once those tasks are down, then look at the available free time you have. It will all become clearer on paper.

If you have a work from home business, then begin my marking out your personal development time, time for training and learning, talk to your sponsor about how much time should be spent on these activities. I suspect in the beginning it will be a lot of time. Let's face it, there will be a lot of reading, researching, planning and activition happening all at frightening speed. It can get overwhelming if you let it.

The Secret is in the Follow Ups

The age old problem for newbies or even well established internet marketers, is how do you turn a lead into a sale?

If you have never 'sold' or talked someone into 'buying' a product or service before, this can be scary, unnerving and could lower your confidence and self esteem. Most online marketing companies do offer mentoring and a coach to help you through your first few sales, normally by doing three way calls with you and your potential client.

There are a number of ways you can do the follow ups, through phone calls, emails, skype is also an option, it is up to you to choose which medium is comfortable to you, but a good mix of all three can help.

The secret is indeed in the follow up. When a prospect lands on your website, how are you following them up? Can you tell which ones are just curious and which ones are serious?

I have spent so much time following up people who were not really interested but were just curious and due to my inexperience when I first joined the online marketing world I found it difficult at first to turn these people round into a 'sale'.

I started out with developing a script I was comfortable with to use when making follow up calls, and in time I adapted and made this more freestyle for my own purposes. This helped me to push my sign-up rate to 4 in 10 people rather than the original 1 in 15 when I first started out.

Building a rapport with your prospects is important. Getting to know and understand them and their current situation will help you identify how best you can 'serve' them and meet their needs through the products or services you have. People will often not buy from 'strangers' or people they feel they cannot trust, so building up this trust is important.

Get yourself Organised

If you have never worked from home before, then getting organised can be one of the biggest headaches to setting up your home business. It took months of trial and error for me to finally come up with a suitable way of getting myself organised.

I hope the following helps you with gaining some idea of things to think about when you begin to set up your work from home business.

Checklist of Stationery Items and Essentials to help you get organised:

* Prepare your business objectives and goals

* Identify your training needs and plan out a daily training strategy to build your business knowledge up quickly and clearly.

* Note Pad -
1. To keep training notes in (these could be training provided by your company, or training you come across on the web).
2. useful to make short notes when talking to clients over the telephone or in person
3. To write down your daily 'to do' List

* Box File - to keep receipts, invoices,etc for home business

* Diary - preferably page to view to help with appointments

* Your Own set of Pens, Pencils, hole punch and stapler (keep out of sight as the kids tend to come and 'borrow them', and they tend to dissappear once borrowed!

* Set up your Answer Machine Message (I found it useful to write myself a script so that I dont fluff it up when recording on the phone...)

* A handy folder or file with your scripts and any other business material you will need to refer to while on the phone... e.g price list, product list, etc..

* If you can afford this - your own Computer - an essential must for any home business.... I found it impossible to share or compete with my kids when they had homework and needed the use of the computer to complete their assignment...

* A book of First Class and 2nd Class Stamps (always handy)

* Envelopes ( think about what size is preferable for your business, and what you would be using the envelope for).

* Spare cartridge ink for the printer - nothing more annoying that finding our when you go to print your leaflets, that your kids have used all the colour up doing their homework assignments for school!

* Organising a seperate phone line for your home business, (I use my skype number as my business contact number, saves on costly line rentals for a seperate line, also you can divert Skype messages if you are not online)

* do you need fax facilities? There are free online fax numbers which email you when a fax is received, however, you would have to pay for the service if you want to send a fax from your PC... Click here for info

*Set up business email addresses seperate from your personal address. It is useful to keep the business email the same name as your website if you have one.

* Order Business cards online a really good site which I use is www.Vistaprint.com, but if you google 'free business cards' I am sure other good sites will come up.

Can You Socialise While Working From Home

I guess many of us who work from home find it a lonely task at times. There are not office chats, ‘bouncing ideas from colleagues over the desk, no truly instantaneous interactions as you would get in an office environment. So why does working from home appeal to many?

It is not as easy as some people think to be able to work from home. This takes a certain type of person. One who can organise themselves efficiently, one who can focus on tasks at hand and not get distracted by the doorbell, family or friends coming over to a chat, or being the person who does all the running around for the rest of the family, just because ‘Joe works from home!’. Anyone out there relate?

There are times when you just got to put your foot down. (No, not down someones mouth, just put your foot down, be firm). Working from home, means exactly that…. Working from home.

There are networks that you can join to help with the socialising aspect of working from home, locally business organisations such as the local chamber of commerce, BNI groups, Rotary Clubs and the like. Many people who join such organisations have one thing in comment, they all work from home or have their own business whether working from home, or having branched out to a small office or shop.

But its not all about business when it comes to socialising. What do you do for your birthday or xmas parties? Its hardly the same planning a xmas party for yourself now is it? But why not plan a party for your customers who have been loyal to you throughout the year. Just a select gathering will do. It is nice to see the faces behind the names, and socialise and get to know them on a more personal level, this is a brilliant way to do this. Remember you need to check your budget and to book them in early, as they are bound to have other Christmas parties to go to.
